T6 - School 26:02

about

Nasty Wizard Recordings are slightly too proud to announce their latest lo-fi cassette release – a live document of Beijing indie rock favorites The Twenties and experimental duo T6 (thruoutin x Noise 666). Recorded live at School Bar on December 20,2015 (the last time anyone saw the greatest band in Beijing perform live) it’s a contradictory slice of pop tinged guitar rock and sheet metal noise.

Side A is all about The Twenties, a newer arrival in the Beijing scene who’ve been paying their dues slowly working their way up the rungs of the live music circuit, honing their sound and earning the respect of audiences and musicians alike. This marks the first physical release for The Twenties ahead of their debut album that should drop this year, and while it’s by no means a crystal clean slice of pop brilliance it is an honest document of where the young band are at, here and now. Hopefully this will be the first of many recordings from the band and Side A will serve as a little piece of the band’s history, of where they were when they were on the way. Something like that.

Side B is pretty much the polar opposite of pop-tinged guitar rock, T6 being a project that consists of thruoutin and Noise666 a.k.a Ding ChenChen. The music is made from found objects which consist of sheet metal, sticks, and various other objects and are used as percussion instruments that are beaten quietly along to the ambient sounds of the room. Over the past twelve months T6 have become a powerful force in the Beijing sheet metal renaissance, attracting attention from fans of the thrash, doom, and speed metal scenes. Simply put T6 have solidified many metal fans’ disillusionment with guitar, bass, drums, vocals, melodies, song structure, and Black Sabbath t-shirts. As a result T6 are progressing the Beijing metal scene into a literally stripped down new era. Side B serves as a document of this pinnacle moment in the Beijing scene.

To celebrate the release the Nasty Wizard has organized not one, but two release shows, the first one going down at the scene of the original recording, School Bar,on Friday June 3,2016 with support from the female fronted post math rock band from Hangzhou GriffO, Brit-pop ruffians Elenore, and prog rock outfit Electric Lady. On Sunday June 5 part two is happening at the latest hot bed of strange and experimental sounds in Beijing, Fruity Space, with support from Sheng Jie (gogoj) and Wang Ziheng. The Twenties/ T6 split tape will be on the door at both shows, featuring the brilliant analog photography of Canadian born Beijing based artist Scarlett Losch.

Once again Nasty Wizard Recordings have got your back when it comes to lo-fi live recordings and abstract noise. You can thank us later.

[Despite no tapes being listed here we might actually have some copies. This is because shipping tapes out of China is a bit of headache and can be expensive, so if you'd like to buy a copy of this release on tape the easiest thing would be to email us at nastywizardrecordings@gmail.com and we'll figure something out]
